Santorini - Oia

Santorini Itinerary

  • Fira
  • Oia
    • The spot that we took our post card pictures
  • Beaches
    • Perissa - Black Beach (close to Fira)
    • Akritori - Red Beach
    • Ammoudi Beach (down the donkey Path from Oia)
  • Boutari Winery
  • Sunset Cruise
    • Fira (Nea Kami, Hot Springs, Thirasia) and Sunset at Oia

Oia

"Oia is carved out of the cliffs, and visitors can see houses built for Venetian sea captains as well as the more typical "cave houses" of the villagers. You’ll find the pure white buildings with colourful roofs that are typical of Greek architecture, and you’ll probably enjoy poking around the town. But don’t breeze through in an hour—you must stay for the sunset. It’s legendary. Watch from a cafĂ©, or, better yet, from a boat—you’ll be spellbound." (Trip Advisor)

Oia is really beautiful and you can find the best sunset in Santorini.  The ruined castle is the best place to check out the Sunset.  Unfortunately, the place looks very "artificial" to me.  It seems very new and touristy.  Note: If you want to buy stuff, just buy it in Fira. Everything here is more expensive.

This is the church that you see where you go to a small alley / steps towards the "postcard" spot.  Google doesn't seem to show the steps in the Maps version.

Where to Eat?

Oia

Meltini

Definitely a 5-star
Greek Tapas at it's best.  An inconspicuous restaurant, just off the the main street in Oia, which is perfect and thus, is cheap and really good.   This is worth a visit!  Love the Fried Cheese, Pork Neck Steak, the Sausage, and the Vegetable Fritters.

Santorini Salad

Vegetable Fritters

Grilled Cheese

Octopus marinated in Vinegar - I don't really like this as it is sooo chewy.  Prolly should have gone for Grilled Octopus.

Fava

Spetzofai - Spicy Sausage

Love the Pork Neck Steak.  Really tender and juicy

Pastourma Pie - The Pie was good but too salty though.

Roka

Not sure why people have good reviews on this.  This is honestly just OK for me.  Price-wise the same as those nice restaurants in Fira. I missed eating the calamari but that seems to be the popular one.  Bad Customer Service!
Roka Salad - it is tad sweet

Stuffed Aubergine - meh :(

Octopus in Sweet wine - meh!

Pasta with Veal (prolly the only redeeming part here.. Veal was tender)

Melenio (Dessert Place)

Along the main street of Oia is a nice Dessert Place! Try the Greek Traditional Custard and Chocolate Cake. And definitely go for the Fredo Cappuccino.
They have a very GOOD VIEW too!

Where to Stay?

Villa Agrikoia

This is a very nice house as well on rent in booking.com and available from 250 Euros per night. This has a pool and close to Oia.  However, the drive is a bit difficult as the road is too narrow.  But there's a cliff near there where you can see a beautiful sunset and there are not much people around that area, compared to the Oia proper.

Ground Floor Toilet/Shower

Mezzanine Bedroom

Basement Shower with Spa

Breakfast! Bread with Jam and Butter, Cakes, OJ and Coffee only - but who cares the view is great!
