Carbon Canyon Regional Park (OC)

Image
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/carbon-canyon-nature-trail Entrance: 5$ per vehicle This is so far the nicest hike that I had. Quite easy 3 mile hike that goes to very young Redwood trees (the only non-native Redwood tress in SoCal).  The park itself has tennis, volleyball courts as well as a man-made lake and it seems like it is often frequented for Wedding and Pre-nuptial photos.  You can walk up to the houses and have a good view of the mountains and landscape. It's quite pretty! Walking thru the very young Redwood Trees View from the Top A lot of bunnies Be careful, even a snake on the pavement Man-made lake and a number of couples are doing pre-nup photos

Top of the World  W Ridge, Laguna Beach, CA 92651  https://goo.gl/maps/wQdN5tA3LcWZfhPo8 Hike: Hard (it was a long hike and I think Car Wreck trail coming back was hard as we have to climb rocks to go up), prolly around 6 - 7 miles August 16, 2020 This was not an easy hike especially the Car Wreck trail where you climb up rocks etc but this was the only trail that half of the trail was quite shaded with trees and the other half was a bit rocky etc.  What is annoying is that there are so many bikers/cyclis t despite that it was so dusty as well!  We end up waiting most of the time for them to pass or turn our backs because it was so dusty.  Also, there were actual vehicles driving around that made so much dust (not sure if they were rescuing someone), but they were cars by the park rangers.  It was also quite crowded (you do have enough social distancing as it is a huge park but there are narrow trails).   Since that day was pretty hot, getting there even at around 7-9 am was already h

Eaton Canyon Nature Center 1750 N Altadena Dr, Pasadena, CA 91107  https://goo.gl/maps/5jWQZH6Hd6z112uD7   Hike: Easy, 3 Miles round trip, just a bit rocky along the creek area. Note: Reservation Required. Go to Eaton Canyon site to register and book for an entry timed around 8 am, 11am, and  2pm.  You can check their video on how to register and book. Reservation is FREE . September 4, 2020 Went to Eaton canyon for the long weekend and was hoping not to get heatstroke with temp going as high as 105F during this weekend. It was pretty OK since we went quite early at 8 am and this was an easy hike of around 3Miles (round trip) which took us around less than 1.5 Hours. The trail going there was pretty much open until you reach the bridge (you actually have to go under the bridge and follow the path of the creek towards the falls), and then it's pretty shaded but this is only around 25% of the route, wish it was a bit longer. The Falls itself was pretty small. Probably, because it

Peter's Canyon Regional Park (LA)

Peter's Canyon Regional Park  8548 Canyon View Ave, Orange, CA 92869  https://goo.gl/maps/PGx3UkcfhLKro8f58 Note: You need to pay 3$ for a day parking September 12, 2020 Went to day for a quick hike in Peter's Canyon Regional Park and took the 2.5 mile loop that goes around the reservoir. Generally, it's an easy "dusty" hike with some minimal elevations (pretty easy honestly).  There were bikes going around at some trails but really minimal so it was OK.  The reservoir and marsh were just OK. Didn't really had a lot of shade and it was pretty open.  If you are looking for a picturesque area, this is not the place.    There were not a lot of hikers today, not sure if it was also because of the "air warning" as there are still forest fires and it was around 12 noon that we got there. It wasn't supposed to be hot (only high as 90F) but the weather was "smoke."
