Mexico City - Itinerary
- Where to stay?
- Condesa and Roma norte seem to be the place to stay as it's just near bunch of food and restaurants
- I stayed in one of the ULIV houses - mine was the ULIV Cibeles which is really close to the Cibeles Fountain
- They have a game room, terrace, and laundry room
- Unfortunately, they never cleaned my room for the entire time we were there (9 days!)
- Where to eat
- El Califa de Leon
- 1 Michelin Star
- It was just OK to be honest
- Roma Norte/ Condesa
- Chilpa - great chilaquiles
- Odette Cafe - I love their savory croissant (Turkey Gruyere)
- Rosetta Panaderia - Bakery
- Order their Guava and Ocho. It was good.
- Restaurante Rosetta
- 1 Michelin star
- It was just OK for me to be honest
- Nudo
- I like the biang biang mian noodle and Laksa , it was good. The Laksa is very anchovy.
- Yim Thai Kitchen
- Simple Thai food. I like it.
- Tacos
- Maizajo - Michelin Recommended
- I got their Ribeye Tacos which had potato shoe strings
- and then got their Brisket Volcano (it's the cripier tacos vs the not so crisp Costas but both have Oaxaca cheese on them). Very filling because of the cheese
- Taco Orinoco
- Order the Nortesta (which is like the chicharoon with some cheese and onions)
- Fritoles was also good.
- Polanco
- Siembre Taqueria
- Michelin Bib Gourmand
- I love their Tuna tostado and their Soft shell crab (Jaiba) taco
- Quintonil
- 2 Michelin Star
- 5K Mexican Pesos + drinks + tip
- It's a good experience :)
- Monarch Haus
- I like their coffee and it's a fancy nice place
- Historic Center
- El muro churreria - it's just ok to be honest
- Azul Historico - the place is amazing and food is good too.
- What to do?
- Roma Norte
- Jazz
- Casa Franca
- Jazzatlan
- Biblio Vasconcelos
- Instagrammable Place
- Museums
- Soumaya (Polanco)
- it was free, and it's a really nice building
- National Anthropology Museum
- It was good to see history and large stones/structures
- There's the flyers right outside the museum
- Palacio Bellas Artes
- We did a walking tour - around Historic Center
- Coyoacan Area
- Frida Kahlo's Museum - make sure you book in advance as it gets easily booked out
- Leon Trotsky House - Russian Opposition - the house was interesting
- Artesanal Mercado - if you want to buy stuff's but not a good market.
- Coffee
- Roma Norte/condesa Area
- Post
- very minimalist cafe. Doesn't even have cappucino or latte. I ordered flat white which was good.
- Blend Station
- Cardinal Casa de cafe
- Coyoacan
- Cafe El Jarocho
- Coffee is OK. It's really more the fact it's traditional
- Order the very Mexican style coffee - with Cinnamon and Sugar - Cafe de Olla
- Cafe Avellaneda 👎
- Don't really like it. Latte was too foamy.
- Not sure why this has been recommended by a number of bloggers.
- Day Tours
- Teotihuacan Day Tour
- booked this via the Estaccion Mexico after the walking tour and so it was cheaper. (600 pesos = 35 $).
- La Lucha Libre
- This was really fun!
- Note: They said it's actually not advisable to uber or walk around the alleys! The good thing is that the tour guide brought us to the main street which was a few blocks from Alvaro Obregon street. Also, there's a lot of people going out of the arena so safer. So it wasn't really not as UNSAFE as they told us. But stay vigilant.
Tip!
- We did a free walking tour in the Historic Center, afterwards our Tour Guide offered some additional tours at a very good discounted rate
- We did Teotihuacan only for 600 Pesos = 30+ USD
- We just went straight to Teotihuacan, no tourist stops, no stop over.. it was from 8 am meeting point at Bellas Artes and coming back 2-2.30 PM. Just the pyramids!!! no tourist traps
- They apparently also do the Lucha Libre which we booked via Viator (but they did mention that for certain days, they had a discount). So check it out! The website or the tour if you get from them directly is around 800 Pesos = 45+ USD but we paid around 60 USD via Viator.
