Delft, Netherlands

How to get here? From Amsterdam Centraal Station, there are a lot of trains going to Rotterdam Centraal or Delft.  Delft is around 2 train stops from Rotterdam Centraal.

What to see?

The main area of Delft is (as per other European cities) is the main square called the Markt.  Here you can see the New Church and the town hall, and you can grab some tasty Dutch Pancakes.

Near the Prinsenhof Windmill, When you get off the station and look to your right, you will probably see this windmill already.

Nieuwe Kerk (New Church)

Unfortunately, they are fixing the facade of the church till early next year (2016) [I think].  You can go up the tower to see an aerial view of the square and Delft.  I heard the church also look beautiful from the Inside.

Windmill 'De Roos'

If you want to see are real windmill, when you get out of the Delft Station and look to your left, you will most likely see the windmill already. It is only like a 10minute walk.

Delftware (Blue and White Pottery)

Delftware, or Delft pottery, denotes blue and white pottery made in and around Delft in the Netherlands and the tin-glazed pottery made in the Netherlands from the 16th century.

Delftware in the latter sense is a type of pottery in which a white glaze is applied, usually decorated with metal oxides. Delftware includes pottery objects of all descriptions such as plates, ornaments and tiles.

This is an actual light post made of Delftware with a view of the Old church. It's at Sint Agathaplein, just beside Museum Prinsenhof Delft.  You have a view of Oude Kerk (the old church) behind.

Where to Eat?

Beesten Markt

This is the square just near the church.  If you are in the square facing the church, it is to your right, just a few minutes walk.  This place has some good restaurants where you can grab food.   You can try the apple pie in Kobus Koch too.

Kobus Koch@Beesten Market

A local suggested that we try our the Apple Pie here.  Personally, it was so so and nothing spectacular but I like it since wasn’t that sweet.  We got the 7.90 Euro Kobus combo which was coffee, apple pie (with or without whipped cream) and a small glass of Nectar Pedro Ximenez which was apparently a Spanish dessert wine with sweetness of raisins and dates and goes well with the Apple Pie.

Het Gulden ABC the Markt

In the main square of Delft itself, we got to try the Dutch pancakes at Het Gulden ABC.   We sat outside with the view of the town hall and the church.   The Dutch pancakes costs around 12 euros and we ordered something savory - Cheese, Ham and Egg Pancake.  I personally liked it because it was a bit toasted so it has a bit of a crispy crust.  It is actually very filling.
