Korea Free Transit Tour

Website: https://www.airport.kr/pa/en/d/2/3/5/index.jsp?tabIndex=2

If you have more than 4 hours layover or transit in Korea OR if you can try to "time" your transit so that you have reasonable amount of time in Korea, check out their free transit tours. It is again "FREE" and a good "taste" of what Korea can offer.

A couple of things to note though before you join this tour:

  • Do reserve spots for the tour.  I arrived 5.30 am and was planning to join the 8 am tour but unfortunately, both 8 and 9 am were already fully booked.
    • Telephone : 82-32-741-3139, 3140 e-Mail : transittour@airport.kr or check the site.
  • You can join 2 tours as well if you have enough time - I ended up joining 10 - 3 pm (5 hour) and 3 - 6 pm (3 hour) tours.  Actually they do leave enough time to go back to the airport so you are usually back 20-30 minutes before the time allotment.
  • Allow for at least 1 hour for immigration and checkpoint - 1 hour going out and 1 hour going in.
  • There are transit meeting points but might as well go out directly to the main desk - it took a while waiting at the desk to wait for the and the person explaining one person at a time.  The meeting point was every 30 minutes starting at 7.  I was there at 7 and we only left at 7.30!!!
    • You can just go to your airline and get a stamp for transit tour and tell them that you will go out straight to the main desk.
    • Note: If you have enough time before your tour - stay inside because there are more things inside (or before immigration).
  • They might change itinerary so do check on the day as well.

Overall Feedback:
  • Sept. 10, 2017 (Sunday)
    • This was really just more like a "taster"/ "sampler" and felt it was too rush.
    • Went to the cave tour (3-hour) - we were practically like running around the first level cave and didn't really get to take enough pictures.
    • Went to the City tour 4 (10 - 3 pm) and had like around 45 minutes in the Changdeok palace - missing the secret garden and like less than 1 hour and 15 minutes in Insa-dong for both food and shopping.
    • It is actually possible to join the tour - and if you want tell the tour guide that you will go back on your OWN.  It is pretty easy to go back but leave at least 1.5 hours travel time to go to SEOUL station and take a train from there (1 hour) to airport.
