Teignmouth, UK (English Riviera)

South Devon is apparently the English Riviera and indeed, the places in South Devon are such a great sight to behold.   Especially if the weather is great (which is very rare), the beaches along South Devon like in Torquary, Dawlish, and Teignmouth are very crowded with lots of people enjoying the rare British summer.

Shaldon
Half a day or Day trip to the next Island
A quaint place with quite a number of thatched roof houses.  Walk over to the Botanical gardens to have a bird's eyeview of the beach and Teignmouth.
How to go there?  Take the Shaldon Ferry along the back beach near the Blue hut. Ferry is around every 15 minutes and last Ferry is like 845 PM and costs only like 1.50 pounds per person one way.

Overall the food is really good.  Fresh seafood and love the garlic-y taste of the crab.  We didn't order the lobster nor the whole crab as we wanted to easily it the food so ended up getting bucket of crab claws which was yummy and fantastic.

Do *not* order the Sharing board.  It is not good and not worth it.  The chorizos are meh, the prawns are small and nothing fantastic, the crab claws are ok but are cold, so I rather have the warm ones, but the parma ham oysters are good though, but that is too small to justify getting the platter. I would rather order a whole crab or another bucket of Crab claws, instead of this.

It seems to be always fully booked.   They said it was fully booked till the week after.  Good thing, we got a free table outside (though it was hot) and the waiter said those with reservations will have priority over food, so they will try to cook ours in between the orders of those who made reservations.  So the food was really slow but we already expected it :)

Bought some whelks and winkles at the Crab Shack Deli near Crab shack since the we waited for a while for the food

Bucket of Crab Claws - very garlic-y, Yummy

Sharing Platter - Meh! Skip this!

Oysters - Yummy!

John Dory - Fish of the Day - Really fresh and good

Didn't get to try this but people were suggesting this for Cheap and good food in Teignmouth.  They have crab sandwich and salad which is prolly good and fresh.

I was really disappointed with this place.  The place looks really nice - has a great ambiance.   Unfortunately, the service was slow and food is nothing fantastic.

Devon's Drinks

Their Version of Cheesy Garlic Bread - this was actually good!

Calamari - Good!!!

Tagliattele di Mare - Errr.. It's ok and the pasta noodles was really badly done, was sticking to each other.

Pasta al Ragu (meatballs) - really was missing something, maybe salt or something.  Felt like spaghetti just mixed with tomato puree! :(

Pizza Quattro Stagionni - it was ok but when they serve it was already not that warm so it wasn't that good.

Scallops - with butter, garlic, cream.  This was too creamy which was too overpowering, prolly would have been better with just garlic and butter.

It was an OK and affordable hotel.  Clean and just right.  The staff are very friendly. And you can meet Oberon, their bearded Dragon Pet!
