Balboa Village/ Beach - I actually enjoyed this place. Not as big as Newport Beach or Hungtington but quite quaint and nice.  There's a pier with Ruby's at the end, so I guess you can dine and wait for Sunset there.  

There's a Pavilion that you can take ferry to an island nearby and even an auto ferry.  There's a nice small place with Ferris Wheel and "Fun Zone."  Not a lto of food options, but there are some tacos, pizza, bbq, funnel cakes etc.
