Cancun, Mexico

Updated: September 2018

USD to Mexican Pesos was around 1 is to 18 Pesos.  In the shops, it's around 17.8 but if you just withdraw from the ATM, it was higher like around 18.8 so better.

Isla Mujeres

  • 300 pesos for a round trip ticket and leaves every half an hour.
  • There are several ports going to Isla Mujeres (obviously, the closer to the hotel zone was more expensive).  This one was the cheapest - Gran Puerto Terminal

The Port

Port from Isla Mujeres

The Ferry - really quite nice and they have a person playing a guitar to entertain us

El Oasis Mariscos

Feedback:
  • Ceviches was amazing
  • Seafood casserole with Cheese was good but so filling
  • Paella was just OK.
  • Love their Sangria

Restaurant Labna

Traditional Yucatan Food

RUINS around Tulum and Yucatan

Ek Balam

In the middle of the Jungle and higher than the Coba Temples and you can see the whole green jungle.

Coba

Make sure you take the tricycle for 125 each tricycle (for 2 people).  It is a bit of a walk so it's actually better.

Zona Arqueológica de Tulum

Beautiful Mayan beach along the coast, you can take a picture of the temples with the beach view. Looks really amazing. Unfortunately, during our visit, the waters were a bit turbulent but normally it really look blue and serene.

Casa Jaguar

As they said in the reviews, it is good but overpriced food. Honestly not worth it. Around 400 Pesos for mains and 200+ for cocktails.  Really expensive for Mexico.  I think the whole area seems to be kinda similar.

Place and Ambiance is nice though.  It is as if you are in a Jungle but note: there are a lot of mosquitoes.  Make sure you put some mosquito repellent.

Kantun-chi Ecopark (Cenotes and Undergound River)

Definitely take the underground river tour, it is a very different experience. Around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Feel free to skip all the cenotes except Cenote #3 (not in the picture but looks amazing, and you can see them in the brochures)

Akumal Beach

You can park near the dive shop for 20 pesos per hour

This is the place to find sea turtles, unfortunatly the government put a law in place that they can't be disturbed during breeding so we can only visit another circle (the non-breeding area) and only saw one turtle.

Water was murky because of algae and the corals were kinda dead so not a lot of fish too.

Marakame Cafe

Went to this Cafe - it was good and simple food. Though I probably will go to better Mexican cafes/restaurants.
